Psychologists and counsellors both support mental health but differ in training and focus. Psychologists typically hold a doctoral degree and are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including severe disorders like depression and schizophrenia. They use evidence-based therapies and conduct psychological assessments. Counsellors, who usually hold a master’s degree, focus on helping clients with specific life challenges, such as stress, grief, or relationships, using practical, goal-oriented approaches. Unlike psychologists, counselors do not typically diagnose severe conditions or perform testing. Both aim to improve mental well-being and may collaborate for comprehensive client care.
